Kurunzi Fund

Ending early child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) through girls’ education and community engagement in Kenya.

The name KURUNZI comes from the Kiswahili name meaning “source of light” and reflects our mission to provide light to young girls in Northern Kenya by providing educational opportunities that expand possibilities beyond early marriage.

Our Vision

Educate a girl – inspire a generation.

Our Mission

Through education girls will be empowered to make educated choices about their future and contribute to the economic development of their families and communities.  The long-term goal is to inspire lasting community-based change focused on dignity and the inclusion of girls’ contributions to the community for this and future generations.

Ending child marriage in Kenya

Help us end early child marriage in Kenya

Marriage before 18 violates the Kenyan constitution. However, many girls are still married off at much younger ages.  According to a 2023 UNICEF report, 4.5 million girls are married before the age of 15 and 1.1 million before the age of 18.  This means 1 in 4 girls become child brides.

We believe education is the key to lasting cultural change.
